Frequently asked questions

Where is the crafting circle held?

We host all the circles at SMUSH Gallery, located at 340 Summit Avenue in Jersey City, NJ. The gallery is a 10 minute walk from the Journal Square Path station. (To get there, exit the station toward Sip Ave, walk east on Sip to Summit Ave, and then walk 4 1/2 blocks south on Summit Ave).

Is there parking?

SMUSH doesn’t have designated parking spots, but street parking is available.

Do you provide supplies?

Yes! Most folks bring their own projects and supplies, but we have a small stash of goodies for anyone who needs them (and we’re working on adding more).

If you require any adaptable tools or have unique requests, don’t hesitate to reach out!

What type of crafts can I bring?

All types of projects are welcome! Our crafters bring everything from knitting to collage to watercolor. We just ask the following:

1. Keep space in mind: we craft at a large group table and bulky projects can make it difficult to share space (working on the floor is an option too, and folks have totally done it).

2. No hazardous or toxic materials. No glitter.

3. Be mindful of mess: the gallery almost always has art on display. We encourage you to bring projects that don’t pose too much of a risk when it comes to spilling or splattering on the art. If a participant damages art, they will be held financially responsible.

If you’re unsure whether or not to bring a specific project, feel free to reach out and ask!

I don’t have a craft project. Can I still join?

Absolutely. That’s why we keep supplies on hand. If you’re unsure where to start or wander in empty handed, you can dive into our stash. People also use the time to map out their next craft project.

Do you offer craft lessons?

Not right now, but we’re working on it. :)

In the meantime, if you’re looking for art lessons in the area, check out the JC Print Room and the Jersey City Art School. SMUSH also hosts a dope sewing series.

Do I have to RSVP?

Nah, just drop in.
